Enrollment Procedure for Nursery, KG, and 1st Standard
The enrollment procedure for Nursery, KG, and 1st-grade admissions under the general category in Delhi’s private schools began on Thursday, November 23rd, for the academic session 2024-2025. The deadline for submitting applications is December 15. The admission criteria, disclosed on Monday by 366 out of 1731 schools on the Directorate of Education website, emphasize proximity to the school as the primary factor, carrying the highest weightage for scoring. In essence, the closer the residence to the school, the higher the marks awarded.
A majority of schools will conduct the registration online, with the initial list slated for release on January 12, 2024. Simultaneously, 25% of seats in all private schools reserved for the economically weaker section (EWS) will undergo a centralized online admission process administered by the Directorate of Education.
The admissions process employs a point system, wherein specific marks are allocated to each eligibility criterion. However, the weightage assigned to a criterion may vary across schools. For instance, Amity International School attributes 30 points to the proximity criterion, while The Indian School designates 60 points. In contrast, Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, differentiates with 70 points for those within 10 km and 60 points for residents within 10-12 km, with distance calculated automatically via Google Maps linked to the application form.
Common criteria among most schools include points for siblings and alumni, ranging from 10 to 30. Some schools also assign points for firstborns, girl children, and single parents. For instance, MM Public School, Pitampura, allocates 50 points for proximity, 20 for a girl child, 10 for siblings, 10 for the firstborn, and 10 for alumni. Meanwhile, Evergreen Public School, Vasundhara, designates 30 points for siblings, 10 for alumni, 60 for proximity within 0-6 kilometers, and 40 for distances beyond 8 kilometers.
Despite the National Education Policy (NEP) directive, there is no variance in the age criteria. The minimum and maximum age limits for all three classes remain consistent—3 years to less than 4 years for nursery, 4 years to less than 5 years for KG, and 5 years to less than 6 years for Class I.
The schedule is as follows:
– Release of the list of applicants by December 29.
– Uploading of allocated points by January 5.
– Resolution of list-related issues from January 13-22.
– Release of the second list of selected students on January 29.
– Resolution of issues in the second list from January 31 to February 6.
– Conclusion of the process by March 8.
