The existing corridor of Delhi Metro’s Rithala – Narela will be extended to the inside of Kundli-Nathupur in Haryana as announced by transport minister Kailash Gahlot. Delhi government has given an in-principle approval to the extension and will send the proposal to the central government to enable tendering to start for the project.
Mr. Gahlot said that the total length of this Delhi Metro corridor from Rithala – Narela corridor to Kundli-Nathupur will be 23.7km, out of which it is proposed that 2.7km will be in Haryana. Currently, residence in nearby rural areas rely on buses to travel from Delhi-Haryana border to the main city since this the only source of public transportation to commute there. Once operational, this corridor will help the locals to commute easily & they can enjoy hassle free ride to their destination. It is also said that after this corridor is operational, residents of these areas would now be able to reach the heart of Delhi within an hour and a half. Mr. Gahlot said “This extension will not only benefit the people of the two villages of Kundli and Nathupur but also all the residents of other nearby villages”
Keeping the residents connected
The current length of this corridor which is currently 22.9km has been extended to 23.7km, while the Haryana portion will cover 2.7km, making the combined stretch from Narela to Nathupur 26.5km long. The proposed extension will feature 19 stations from Rithala to Narela with an additional two stations in Haryana.
Currently Delhi Metro have six corridors, including:
- Mukundpur (Majlis Park) – Maujpur
- Aerocity-Tughlaqabad
- Janakpuri West-RK Ashram
- Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block
- Inderlok-Indraprastha
- Rithala-Narela-Nathupur.
Currently, the Mukundpur – Maujpur, Aerocity-Tughlaqabad and Jankpuri West-RK Ashram corridors are under construction.
Besides this, as per the report from the state government – the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block and Inderlok-Indraprastha corridors are in the tendering process.
The proposed Rithana-Narela-Nathupur corridor will be the next move from Delhi Metro to enhance it’s current network and make Delhi Metro connectivity a step closer to the region, providing the residence of Delhi and Haryana – enhanced connectivity and making daily travel more efficient and sustainable”
