Residents of Noida and Greater Noida can look forward to faster and easier travel between the two cities, with a new metro link planned for completion by 2028.
The construction of the Aqua Link Line Metro, connecting Botanical Garden to Noida Sector 142, is expected to begin by March 2025. The project is marked to be a significant development for residents of Noida and Greater Noida. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project has been submitted to the central government. After final approval, it will take about seven months to allot the tender and begin construction.
Project Overview
Dr. Lokesh M, Managing Director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), revealed that this new link line will span 11.56 kilometers. The DPR has already received approval from the state cabinet and forwarded it to the central government, where approval is expected in the coming months. In the next step, tenders will be issued for construction. Initially, the project was scheduled to be completed in three years, but the timeline has now been extended to five years. The Aqua Link Line is anticipated to serve around 125,000 commuters daily, with an estimated construction cost of approximately ₹2,254.35 crores.
New Station at Botanical Garden
The Aqua Line will have a separate track from the existing DMRC tracks, and a new platform or section is likely to be built at the existing Botanical Garden metro station to accommodate the extension. This ensures a smooth transition for passengers transferring between different metro lines. Entry and exit points will be provided at the Botanical Garden Metro station, with dedicated token counters set up for the new link to avoid congestion.
Eight Stations for Expanded Connectivity
With the addition of this link line, passengers on the Magenta and Blue lines will benefit from improved access to Noida International Airport, various sectors along the expressway, and offices in Greater Noida. Currently, the Aqua Line connects Noida and Greater Noida, running from Sector 51 Metro Station to the Greater Noida Depot, covering a total track length of 29.70 kilometers.
The new metro corridor will feature eight stations: Botanical Garden, Sector 44, Noida Administrative Building, Sector 97, Sector 105, Sector 108, Sector 93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College.
The final station at Sector 142 is already operational and is awaiting a connection to the extended line.
To Sum It Up
This Aqua Line Metro expansion is a crucial step in enhancing public transport connectivity in the National Capital Region, making it easier for residents to travel within Noida and Greater Noida and to key destinations like the international airport. The project not only aims to reduce travel time but also to promote the use of public transportation, thereby contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.
Conclusion
The project promises to transform the commuting experience for many residents, making travel more efficient and convenient. The Aqua Link Line is poised to play a vital role in the future of metro connectivity in the National Capital Region, supporting the growing demands of urban transport.
