Good news for Delhi NCR commuters! The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) recently announced that parking at the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) network will soon be able to handle over 8,000 vehicles at its stations along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. This move is a major advantage for commuters who often hesitate to rely on public transport due to limited parking options.
Here’s a closer look at the parking plans:
Delhi’s Largest RRTS Parking Hub
Sarai Kale Khan Station is set to be the largest parking station in Delhi and the second largest on the overall train network. This station will boast the largest parking capacity within the city and the second largest across the entire RRTS network, accommodating 275 cars and 900 two-wheelers. Strategically designed, the parking facility will provide seamless entry and exit to the main Ring Road and the nearby Delhi Metro station.
Network-Wide Parking Capacity
The Meerut South station is currently the largest parking facility across all RRTS stations, with space for 300 cars and 900 two-wheelers. In total, all 25 RRTS stations spanning the Delhi-Meerut corridor will offer parking for more than 1,600 cars and over 6,500 two-wheelers. The parking spaces will be on the ground floor, under the elevated concourse level of the Sarai Kale Khan Station.
Parking Fees and Convenient Features
The NCRTC has announced free parking for pick-ups and drop-offs within the first 10 minutes. For longer durations, a nominal fee structure will apply:
Up to 6 hours:
₹5 for bicycles, ₹10 for two-wheelers, and ₹25 for cars
6 to 12 hours:
₹5 for bicycles, ₹25 for two-wheelers, and ₹50 for cars
Over 12 hours (until end of RRTS operation):
₹10 for bicycles, ₹30 for two-wheelers, and ₹100 for cars
Night Parking (during non-operational hours):
₹20 for bicycles, ₹60 for two-wheelers, and ₹200 for cars
Additionally, auto-rickshaw parking is available at all eight currently operational stations. These stations, located along the corridor’s 34km operational stretch, have been designed for easy pick-up and drop-off directly from the main road. To further promote eco-friendly commuting, charging stations for electric vehicles are also installed at parking facilities.
Smoother Commutes Ahead
NCRTC’s comprehensive parking plan is a welcome development for NCR residents. By providing convenient, cost-effective, and accessible parking options at its stations, the NCRTC is breaking down a significant barrier to public transport adoption. This initiative is said to encourage more people to choose the RRTS, leading to reduced traffic congestion, lower pollution levels, and faster, more efficient commutes for everyone in the NCR.
