Delhi is ready for a burst of summer colors! Amrit Udyan, formerly known as Mughal Gardens, at Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan is reopening to the public on August 16. This reopening is part of the second phase of the Udyan Utsav, which was announced earlier this year. Spread over 15 acres, Amrit Udyan is set to showcase a vibrant display of seasonal flowers, including Coleus, Celosia, and Tuberose, making it a must-visit for gardening enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
New Attractions and Eco-Friendly Takeaways
Avneesh Banswal, the horticulturist at Rashtrapati Bhavan, explains that visitors can admire 37 hardy plant species thriving in Delhi’s summer heat. “This is especially for gardening enthusiasts to witness,” says Banswal, highlighting unique blooms like the Celosia Cristata.
Also, this year’s Udyan Utsav features a new addition: Bal Vatika. It is designed for children and includes a 225-year-old Sheesham tree, a treehouse, and an engaging “Nature’s Classroom.”
Adding a special touch, visitors will receive a seed paper memento. These paper sheets will be infused with seeds to encourage each visitor to create and nurture a green space at home.
Important Reminders for Visitors
The summer garden is easier to maintain than the winter garden, according to Banswal. He explained that maintaining plants during summer requires more irrigation. The summer plants require prevention from the scorching heat of May and June. Thus, the selection process of the plant species focuses on hardy species that can endure harsh weather. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Bonsai Garden and the Circular Gardens, which are known for their rich variety of flora and fauna.
To ensure a smooth visit, remember these guidelines:

- Outside food and beverages, including tobacco products, are prohibited.
- Umbrellas, wallets, purses, water bottles, and baby milk bottles are allowed.
