About New Delhi World Book Fair 2024

The New Delhi World Book Fair is a literary pageant held every year to promote range of work, new releases in literature world, display and sale of books, hence fostering the love of reading and literary culture. As one of the world’s largest Book fairs, the New Delhi World Book Fair is a major calendar event in Indian Publication world & eagerly anticipated by book enthusiasts, writers, publishers and general public.

Organised by National Book Trust (NBT) India (under the Ministry of Education, Government of India) in collaboration with India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), New Delhi World Book Fair is India’s second oldest book fair after the Kolkata Book Fair.

Running into its 51^st edition this year, the New Delhi World Book Fair attracts the participation of prospective authors, leading publication houses across the globe with ample space & facilities for multiple bookstalls, exhibitions, lectures, and interactive workshops.

This year, New Delhi World Book Fair is scheduled to take place from 10^th to 18 February 2024 (11am to 8pm) at hall 1-5 at the centrally located Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, India.

What is the program of this year’s World Book Fair 2024 in New Delhi?

In the 51^st edition of New Delhi World Book Fair 2024, there will be more than 2000 book stalls. Scheduled to take place from 10^th Feb to 18^th Feb, in hall 1-5 at Pragati Maidan, timing for the general public is from 11am to 8pm.

This literary extravaganza aimed to promote love for reading through different events including rich array of book launches, multiple bookstalls, and literary discussions, author interactions, engaging activities for visitors (including fun activities for children’s pavilion) and vibrant cultural programs and a dedicated theme pavilion.

What is the theme Pavilion of New Delhi World Book Fair 2024?

This year’s theme of New Delhi World Book Fair 2024 is ‘Multilingual INDIA – A Live Tradition’.  This special theme will showcase the rich heritage of multiple languages being spoken across India – their contribution in the making of multilingual anatomy of the country. Since the ancient times, the literary heritage of India has provided a common bridge to spread the mutual understanding and sentiments of our ancient scriptures in the form of Vedas, Upnishads, Puranas. This rich diversity in multilingual India is still running strong in modern world of Technology & Artificial Intelligence. Instead of being bound to take the education in a particular language, today’s children and youth can absorb the knowledge or take education in their local language. Respect for the mother tongue should increase amongst readers and they would be able to express their views openly yet all connected to the goals and values of United India – is the reason why this year’s theme is being designed.

This special Theme Pavilion will be built across 1000 sq. meter with ample space to exhibit range of books on contemporary themes in various Indian languages and iconic figures from India’s rich multilingual heritage & their work in field of multiple languages will be showcased. While the focus is to depict the unity in diversity through different languages – how we can preserve and promote the different regional Indian languages in today’s time – a special space for Technological Innovation called ‘Digital Experience’ will be created for visitors.

Another highlight of this year’s theme pavilion will be the separate booth for multilingual audio books where visitors can listen to the text in the book in their mother tongue.

Braille books and Sign Language 

To cover the participation of people from different walks of the life through multilingual theme, a unique display of Braille books in different Indian languages will be showcased. Apart of this, special coverage will be given to demonstrate hand gestures used in Sign language.

Interactive segments

To induce the fun element, there will be ‘Selfie Point’ to capture audience presence (at the Fair) and make it memorable through selfie.  The overall design of the pavilion will highlight the illustrations and text from the bilingual/ trilingual books as well as the selected children’s books translated into many Indian languages including tribal languages.

Guest of Honour Country at New Delhi World Book Fair 2024: Saudi Arabia

In 51^st edition of New Delhi World Book Fair 2024, the Guest of Honour Country will be Saudi Arabia. Both the host (India) and guest (Saudi Arabia) countries – already enjoying the friendly and cordial relations in decade old ties from economic to social-culture fronts. This year’s Guest of Honour presentation will further strengthen the cultural ties and provide a platform for the exchange of literature, ideas and traditions.

The 400 square meter foreign pavilion at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2024 will host the participation from Saudi Arabia delegation which includes their renowned writers, publishers, literary agents, artists & cultural representatives.

Here readers will get a unique opportunity to experience the Arab literary world, their culture and folk tradition. Book lovers can browse through several books in Arabic language. Saudi Arabia will also be organising various cultural and literary programs at the foreign pavilion. The guest countries will also organize special activities for children. Apart from this, other countries of G-20 group including Spain, Italy will also participate in the fair.

Over 600 programs for Children

Since children & youth are the main brand ambassador of education, academic world, this year, more than 600 programmes will be organised for children in the New Delhi World Book Fair 2024. There will be interactive sessions where youth and can interact with popular writers from India and across the globe. They can also showcase their skills and talent through open mic and MP theatre.  Career counselling workshops are also there if you are looking to discuss about prospects of different academic fields.

Other creative workshops will include fields of personality development, calligraphy, illustration, caricature etc. Interactive sessions like storytelling, essay writing, painting, quiz, contests are there to include the fun part for Children zone.  For those, looking to learn Mathematics in a simple and playful way – there will be Vedic Mathematic workshop. Children and youth will also be able to enjoy reading in digital and virtual way here.

These activities in ‘Bal Mandap’ see major excitement and participation from teachers and children from different private and government schools as well as non-government organizations and those associated with children literature.
