Delhi–Meerut RRTS
The Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (Delhi–Meerut RRTS) is a new and fast train line that is being built. It will connect places like Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. This train will run at a good speed, but not too fast, and the work to build it is going on right now. The project is managed by a group called the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), and it’s a part of a bigger plan called RapidX. The train will be able to go as fast as 180 km per hour, and the trip from Delhi to Meerut will take less than one hour. The whole project will cost around ₹30,274 crore, and there will be 22 stops where the train can pick up and drop off passengers. There will also be two places where the trains can be kept, called Depots, and these will be in Duhai and Modipuram.

History and Start
The work on this train line began after a special event on March 8, 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the work by putting a special stone in the ground. In Meerut, the train line will also help people move around within the city. Around 21 kilometers of the train line in Meerut will be just for people who need to travel short distances within the city.
Starting Soon and Full Operation
A smaller part of the train line, which is about 17 kilometers long, is planned to start working by March 2023. The whole train line, which is about 82 kilometers long, should be ready to use by June 2025. This means that people can start using parts of the train line even before the whole thing is done.
Some Challenges
There was a time when some people said that a company from China should not help with building the train line because of a disagreement that happened in a place called Galwan Valley. But now, a different company called Alstom, which is in Gujarat, is making the trains.
Where the Train Goes
The train will pass through many places, and there will be a total of 14 places where the train can stop. Some of these places are Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, Modinagar North, Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram. There will also be two Depots where the trains can be kept, and these will be in Duhai and Modipuram.
Above and Below the Ground
Most of the train line, about 68 kilometers, will be high up in the air, like a bridge. Some parts, about 14 kilometers, will be under the ground, like a tunnel. There will also be a small part, about 1.5 kilometers, where the train line will be on the ground. This part is needed to connect the Depots in Duhai and Modipuram.
How Fast and Where it Stops
The train will be able to go very fast, up to 180 km per hour. But when it is running, it will usually go at a speed of 160 km per hour. This is still very fast! The train will stop at different places, and on average, it will take about 100 km per hour including the time it takes to stop at each station.
The Starting Point and the End
The train line starts from a place called Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. It will go through many parts of Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, and it will finish its journey at a place called Modipuram in Meerut. Sarai Kale Khan will become a busy place with many types of transport like a metro station, a bus station, and a train station.
When and Where it Opens
Some parts of the train line will start working soon. The part between Sahibabad and Meerut South, which is about 38 kilometers, is planned to start by January 2024. The part between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Sahibabad, which is about 16 kilometers, is also planned to start by January 2024. The last part between Meerut South and Modipuram, which is about 37 kilometers, should be ready by July 2024.
More Stations and Easy Travel
There will be a total of 16 places where the train can stop. These will be made so that it’s easy for people to move from the train to other types of transport, like the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and buses. This will happen at stations like Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, and Shaheed Sthal.
