History
In 1872, the Sarai Rohilla Terminal railway station was established as part of the construction of the metre-gauge railway line that connected Delhi with Jaipur and Ajmer. At its inception, the station was relatively modest and situated just outside the boundaries of Delhi’s walled city. This station served as a crucial stop for all metre-gauge trains that either originated from or terminated at Delhi (station code DLI) and were heading towards Rewari, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
The rail line between Delhi Junction and Sarai Rohilla Terminal featured a double-track configuration, ensuring the efficiency of train operations. Furthermore, the single track running from Sarai Rohilla to Rewari was later expanded into a double-track line, extending up to Rewari, where it then diverged into five separate directions.
In 1950, when Delhi was expanded to include the area around Sarai Rohilla, the station was renamed Delhi Sarai Rohilla railway station. In 1962, the metre-gauge line was converted to broad gauge. The station was further expanded in the 1970s and 1980s.
